Historical Tour: Zurich out of a PR campaign
from roman custom's station to city republic.
We'll walk the narrow boundaries between history and legend. Dive into a world of political manipulation and pure fantasy. We'll see guilds gaining power and helping transform the essence of citizenship on the shores of the Limmat. The decisive element is the legend around the city's saints, Felix and Regula, who lived in Roman times and dared to convert Roman Turicum to Christianity. For their actions and their refusal to worship the Roman state gods, they were beheaded.
This story has accompanied the development of the small Roman customs post on its way to becoming Switzerland's largest city. The legend is still present in Zurich's life and has been throughout the times skillfully used by the city's elite to self-enactment. This strategy ended up promoting a political turnaround and the end of a three centuries cycle of political power of the Fraumünster Abbey.
